Barbara Levak Tonejc moved to Kew in 2011 and six years later joined Kew Studio. Inspiration for her painting comes from landscapes and seascapes that capture her attention during travels as well as the outstanding beauty of Kew and Richmond.
She enjoys painting and sketching outdoors, but also loves working in the creative atmosphere of the shared studios in Kew. Some of her favourite subjects include the unforgettable sights of Venice, the solitary beaches of Naoshima in Japan, majestic coastline of South England, impressive architecture of UAE, fascinating bridges and parks of London, though most often she paints the hidden corners of her beloved Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.
When painting landscapes and seascapes Barbara tries to avoid detail, but rather focuses on the feel and the “essence” of the place, those few strokes that define uniqueness of experiencing particular scenes.
She predominantly works with oils using brushes and palette knives, during the winter months she likes to experiment with Japanese ink and figure drawing.
